Spring 2016 Make-up Game Plan (for Majors/3A/2A)

If a game has to be made up (this includes suspensions, continuations)…

  1. Times/Locations for makeup games will be assigned in the order that they are missed.
  2. Please reference the current practice schedules for open fields.

VLL Playing Compression Rules:

NO TEAMS WILL BE REQUIRED TO PLAY:

  1. More than 2 games on back-to-back days
  2. More than 3 games in a five (5) day period.
  3. No more than 4 games in a seven (7) day period.

When you have a cancellation, confer with the opposing manager and see if you can come up with the first and second available make up dates that don't violate the compression rule. We don't guarantee anything other than the first available date, and are not inviting any add'l email traffic on the subject, but we'll consider the dates that you and your opposing manager propose. This must be done on the day of the cancellation

MISC NOTES:

  • If your game gets postponed, suspended, needs to be continued, whatever the case..PLEASE let your League Director AND myself know IMMEDIATELY.
  • Please note that our local rules state:
"No Minor League games will be delayed, canceled, or postponed because registered League umpires are not available." Mitch Hiller will try his best to get umpires for each makeup game.
  • Majors/3A: Please inform your teams to be ready for an 8pm start (on any day) to makeup/continue your games. I understand it’s late..but we need to get these games in.
  • ANY PRACTICE SLOTS ARE OPEN TO BE RECALLED FOR MAKEUP GAMES!

In case of inclement weather:

  1. PLEASE DO NOT ASSUME YOUR GAME IS CANCELLED. PLEASE WAIT ON AN EMAIL FROM ME.
  2. I await ‘official’ word from Mike Jreige, Director of Building Grounds, on the status of Yeonas fields. IF YEONAS FIELDS ARE CLOSED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER, ALL OTHER FIELDS (except Black and Curry) ARE CLOSED.
  • Please note that there may be instances where morning games get cancelled but afternoon games may be playable. If this is the case, if you have a game on a satellite field (not a Yeonas field & not a Nottoway field), please your best judgment on whether you can get your game in or not. I will send out a detailed email with all the specifics.
  1. Black (Nottoway # 5) and Curry (Nottoway # 1) status can be found at: http://parktakes.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/fieldstatus.asp
  • The county website is only updated Monday-Friday.
  • BLACK (in general): Is always ‘open’ UNLESS it is absolutely down-pouring during your game. It can be a difficult call, but please use your best judgment. (please converse with the opposing team, umpires, etc)
  • CURRY (on weekends): The coaches will need to check the field and report back to me on the status. There may or may not be a sign posted on the field, so please use your best judgment. Once I hear back from a manager or two, I will decide on the status of games on that field.
  1. I will ALWAYS send out email updates, regardless. Please wait on an email from me FIRST. Please keep in mind, there may be a short-turnover time to relay the messages to your teams, etc. The weather can be very unpredictable! I will try my best to be prompt on these updates, but please stay patient. The VLL website will be updated too on any inclement weather updates.

If you have any questions, please send me an email. ( )
