AGE GROUPS 5-8 YEARS OLD

There are three leagues in this age group:
T Ball - Ages 5 and 6
Rookie - Ages 6 and 7
Single A - Ages 7 and 8

TEE BALL - The Tee Ball Director is listed under the VLL Board of Directors on the VLL web page (www.vll.org). The email address is also listed. Please direct all queries pertaining to Tee Ball to this individual.

Tee Ball is an instructional and developmental league, no scores or standings are kept. The normal age spread is five and six years old. Please note that no five year old may play in the Rookie League. This is a Little League International rule and VLL may not make any exceptions. A six year old may skip T Ball if he/she is in the first grade at school. Tee Ball is played on a regulation Little League baseball diamond. There is no pitching, but the offensive players hit the ball off of a tee. Rules are structured to encourage participation and skill development and games have a time limit of 75 minutes. All new members of Vienna Little League must show proof of age and proof of residency. Note: All new members (first time registrants or those who did not play the previous spring season) are required to attend one of the VLL New Member Sessions. THIS IS MANDATORY FOR ALL NEW MEMBERS. Failure to comply will result in disqualification of your child from the league. This is a LLI rule and VLL must abide by it.

At the New Members Meeting, parents must provide one of the following documents:
Proof of age: birth certificate, valid passport, valid military ID
Proof of residency: voter card, utility bill, mortgage payment

Information regarding times, dates, and venue of the New Members Meeting may be obtained by going to the VLL web site and clicking on “parents page” in the left hand column.

All questions regarding practices, games, team structure and team/coach preferences may be addressed at the New Members Meeting. No registrations will be accepted.

All registrations must be performed on line. Please go to the web site: www.vll.org and read “League Overview” for further information on Vienna Little League.

ROOKIE - The Rookie Director is listed under the VLL Board of Directors on the VLL web page (www.vll.org). The email address is also listed. Please direct all queries pertaining to Rookie to this individual.

Rookie is an instructional league with no scores or standings kept. No five-year old may play in the Rookie League. To be eligible for Rookie, you must have played T Ball the previous year, or be six years old and in the first grade in school. The usual age spread is 6 and 7 years old. The main difference between Tee Ball and Rookie is that in the Rookie League, the batters hit with a coach pitching the ball rather than off the tee. Players who are six years old and have never played baseball will probably be better off to start their baseball development in T Ball. Rules are structured to encourage participation and skill development and games have a time limit of 75 minutes.

Note: If your player registered for the previous spring season AND you had your documents verified at a previous New Members Meeting, you do not need to attend a current year session. However, if you have not had your documents verified (or are unsure) you should attend one of the current registration period sessions.

SINGLE A - The Single A Director is listed under the VLL Board of Directors on the VLL web page (www.vll.org). The email address is also listed. Please direct all queries pertaining to Single A to this individual.

Single A is an instructional and developmental league; there are no scores or standings. Single A is a “coach pitch” league as the players bat while one of their coaches pitches the ball. Single A plays a 6-inning game with three outs per inning, as opposed to batting through the entire batting order in each inning as in Tee Ball and Rookie. There is a time limit for each game when six innings cannot be played. The normal age spread is 7 and 8 years old. This level is primarily for 8 year olds, although a 9 year old may play if his or her parents request it. Each team may include up to two 7-year olds. A 7 year old must have played in the Rookie League in the prior season to play Single A the current year. An 8 year old may play in the Rookie League if the parents request it. It is sometimes a good idea to have the 8-year-old play in the Rookie league if the player has little or no baseball experience. Following the regular season there is a Single A Field Day where all Single A players get to test their baseball skills.

Note: All new members (first time registrants or those who did not play the previous spring season are required to attend one of the VLL New Member Meetings. THIS IS MANDATORY FOR ALL NEW MEMBERS.
